SYNOPSIS

No, You Can't is a new and original musical with book, music and lyrics by Scott Weinstein.

No, You Can't tells the story of Bethany Daniels, a teenage American girl in high school who is passionate about fighting for equality for women and has a dream to change the world.

She wants to change the way society and the media speak out about women, sexual assault and rape, as she was a victim herself. However, she is faced with the challenges of people telling her that she can’t speak out, as nobody will listen to her and is told that she can’t change anything.

Bethany will do anything she can to get her voice heard, but she tells an awful lie, which sends her on a dark path, losing everything she ever had.

No, You Can’t is timely in today’s theatre market because it centres around themes of gender equality, rights, forms of assault, the dangers of lying and the ups and downs of high school. This musical is relatable across the world as there is inequality everywhere, it shows the world of high school and it contains significant messages such as: don’t let people put you down; don’t let people tell you, you can’t; everyone should be treated equally; and sexism should no longer exist.
